Locating Information on Private Companies

Since private companies do not have to file an annual report, it is harder to find information on private companies.

Reference Books

Business Rankings Annual (REF HF 5343 .B87 2009)
Pages 625-635 contain entries of America’s Fastest Growing Private Companies arranged by state.

Hoover’s Handbook of Private Companies 2009: Profiles of Major U.S. Private Enterprises (REF HG 4057 .A28616 2009)
The book lists 900 of the largest and most influential private enterprises in the U.S.

Crain’s Detroit Business: 2010 Book of Lists (REF HF 3163 .D47 .B66 2009).  Although this is an annual special edition of Crain’s periodical, we have placed it in the reference collection. It has a list of private [companies] 200 ranked by revenue.
